Develop the skills and perspective to better lead in times of crisis. Build a robust toolkit of resources that you can call on for years to come to be the best leader you can be. And importantly, develop a network of peers to learn with and call on for help, each of whom is facing similar challenges and be reminded (and reassured) that you're not alone!

This five-week program is designed for organizational leaders who are looking to improve their skills and knowledge by working intensively with a small group of peers under the expert direction of two of the most progressive business leaders in the country.

The course will run from mid-November to mid-December and is built upon the essays from the Zingerman’s Guide to Good Leading, Part 2: Being a Better Leader. However, the exact focus of the sessions will be adapted to address specific challenges of the participants, which is why we're keeping the class size small.

Who is the course designed for?

You! And anyone looking to really dig into what it means to be a great leader. But especially entrepreneurs, owners of small-to-medium-sized businesses, key leaders in organizations of any size, and future leaders looking to build their skills and knowledge.

What's the format?

This course consists of five 2-hour virtual classroom sessions with ZIngerman's Co-Founder Ari Weinzweig and ZingTrain Founder Maggie Bayless, each with extensive pre-reading and preparation, online dialogue and conversation. Weekly pre-work will be sent to all participants a week before the next virtual classroom session.

Classroom sessions run from 10:00AM - 12:30PM ET on November 17th, 24th, December 1st, 8th and 15th.

Session 1 – The Energy Crisis in the American Workplace (November 17, 2020)
Organizational health goes beyond the financials—unhealthy organizations have a hard time surviving unexpected and extreme change; organizations that were already living in harmony with the Natural Laws of Business tend to be much more resilient.  Explore what you can do to work in harmony with nature to build positive organizational energy and help minimize the negative impact of current and future challenges.

Session 2 - Servant Leadership  (November 24, 2020)
At Zingerman’s, we’ve always believed that Servant Leadership is the foundation of effective management. That belief has been reinforced many times over the past 6 months of the pandemic. Use the 6 Elements of Effective Servant Leadership to improve your personal effectiveness as a leader and to evaluate the strength of your leadership team.

Session 3 - Stewardship (December 1, 2020)
As an organizational leader, of course you have a certain amount of hierarchical authority. But did you know that the less you use that authority the more effective you can be? Learn how a peer-to-peer approach can benefit the greater whole and reserve authority for only those times when you truly need it.

Session 4 - How Anarchism Can Contribute to Healthier Organizations (December 8, 2020)
If you are not satisfied with the results you are getting as a leader, it’s time to change the way you think about leadership.  While anarchism has often been blamed—inappropriately Ari would argue—for any number of problems in history, we believe it has a lot to offer for any creative leader looking to enhance the quality of their organization's culture. Explore some of the effective business systems used at Zingerman’s that encourage creativity, artistic expression, free choice and the uniqueness of each individual.

Session 5 - Leading Your Organization Into the Future (December 15, 2020)
Where will you focus your leadership energy in 2021 and beyond?  You’ll finish this course by documenting and sharing your draft long-term vision for yourself as a leader [and/or for your organization as a whole] and by taking some time to consider the role of humility in effective leadership.

And of course we'll also be sending you some goodies!

In addition to access to the course and all of the online materials, we want you to have something tangible to hold!  So we'll be sending you an autographed copy of Ari's Zingerman's Guide to Good Leading, Part 2: Being a Better Leader book, which is why we'll ask for your mailing address as well as your email address after registering.

The technical details:

All course reading materials will be offered through Teachable.  Weekly classroom sessions will be conducted via Zoom Meeting.  Between-session discussions will take place on a private Slack channel.  Details on how to access all of these resources will be provided upon registration.

Grab a seat while you can – we can't guarantee they'll last long!
