Why did Facebook become so popular and why are we riveted and/or addicted to our technological devices?
Why do some brands stand out from others? Is there some "magic" that makes us ogle over the latest product from Apple or crave a Starbucks?
This session will take a deep dive into influence branding has on our everyday lives, from branding ourselves and the world around us, to the role branding plays in the products we buy and the way we live. Join us to explore:
- What are the waves of modern branding over the last 100 years? Debbie will explore each one, focusing on the brands that defined each period.
- How human evolution and population trends are linked with branding
- How psychology and behavioral rituals are linked with branding
- How technology has changed the way we interact with each other and with brands
- What it takes for modern brands to stand out in a crowded marketplace
- How branding connects with our most hard-wired, basic instincts
The session will conclude with an over-arching hypothesis of why, as a species, we continue to make and mark things, in every aspect of our lives.
*In addition to this Speaker Series session, we're thrilled to have Debbie join us for a 4-hour workshop later in the day from 1-5pm EST called The Art of the Story. In this workshop, Debbie will work with a group of participants interested in exploring the art of telling a story through a unique combination of images and words. In this workshop, we will investigate the ability stories have to honor the diversity and commonality of our collective human experience. Participants will leave with their own visual story artifact! ABOUT DEBBIE MILLMAN
Debbie Millman is a designer, author, curator, educator and brand strategist. Since 2005, she has been the host of the award-winning podcast Design Matters, which is one of the world’s very first podcasts. She is also co-founder and chair of the world’s first Masters in Branding Program at the School of Visual Arts, a curator for the Museum of Design, a contributor to Print Magazine, President Emeritus of AIGA, and the author of six books on design and branding.

>> 6-Packs are only good for Speakers Series sessions this season (through June 13, 2018). We will no longer be accepting season-to-season carry-over tickets -- it's a use 'em or lose 'em type of deal!
>> If you decide a 6-pack is right for you, we want to be sure we have a seat ready for you at the sessions you plan to attend. There are two ways to do that: either let us know which sessions you plan to attend after purchasing your 6-pack OR when you receive an RSVP email from us the Monday before that Wednesday's session.
