This five-week program is designed for organizational leaders who are looking to improve their skills and knowledge by working intensively with a small group of peers under the expert direction of two of the most progressive business leaders in the country. 

The course will run every Tuesday in the month of March, and is built upon the essays from the Zingerman’s Guide to Good Leading, Part 3: Managing Ourselves. However, the exact focus of the sessions will be adapted to address specific challenges of the participants, which is why we're keeping the class size small.

Who is the course designed for?

You! And anyone looking to really dig into what it means to be a great leader. But especially entrepreneurs, owners of small-to-medium-sized businesses, key leaders in organizations of any size, and future leaders looking to build their skills and knowledge. 

What's the format?

This course consists of five 2.5-hour virtual classroom sessions with Zingerman's Co-Founder Ari Weinzweig and ZingTrain Founder Maggie Bayless, each with extensive pre-reading and preparation, online dialogue and conversation. Weekly pre-work will be sent to all participants a week before the next virtual classroom session.

Classroom sessions run from 12:00PM - 2:30PM ET on March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.  

Session 1 – Why Managing Ourselves Well Matters (March 2, 2021)
Organizations are groups of people and as such they reflect the hopes and dreams and the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals who work there.  What we see around us, the way our organizations operate, how much our customers care, the kind of community connections we’ve created, the quality of our products and services are all a reflection of who we are as leaders.  Learn where and how to start improving yourself--as the key first step in improving your organization.

Session 2 - The Role of Free Choice and Mindfulness  (March 9, 2021)
Day-to-day leadership and management can feel like a never-ending list of demands on our time, energy and attention.  If we believe we are helpless to do anything differently, it is easy to slip into the role of victim-- tossed and turned by the storms of organizational life.  Explore what it means to truly, internally, spiritually, and intellectually own the decisions you are making.

Session 3 - The Power of Personal Visioning (March 16, 2021)
At Zingerman’s, visioning is one of the most powerful, and most used, tools in our organizational toolkit.  As we define it, a vision describes what success looks like at a particular point in time--described with enough specificity of detail that you’ll know when you’ve arrived.  The clearer we are about where we want to end up, the greater the likelihood that we’ll get there.  Draft a personal vision of greatness to gain clarity about what a successful life looks like for you.

Session 4 - Making the Most of Our Lives (March 23, 2021)
Time is one of the key resources we can tap when we set to work to manage ourselves--and our surroundings--more successfully.  Whether we realize it or not, our relationship with time is one of the most intimate we engage in--time is with us everywhere we go and it impacts every other relationship we have.  Discover 4 ways to enhance the quality of your relationship with time.

Session 5 - Getting Creative (March 30, 2021)
By definition, a start-up business needs to be creative in order to be successful--whether that creativity is focused on the product mix, the approach to service or on the organizational culture and systems.  In more established organizations, it’s often easier to opt for the “safe” rather than the “creative”--even though most people would argue that creativity and innovation are key to sustainability.  Finish this course by reconnecting with your personal creativity and figuring out what you need to do to truly “own your life.”

And of course we'll also be sending you some goodies!

In addition to access to the course and all of the online materials, we want you to have something tangible to hold!  So we'll be sending you an autographed copy of Ari's Zingerman's Guide to Good Leading, Part 3: Managing Ourselves book, which is why we'll ask for your mailing address as well as your email address after registering.

The technical details:

All course reading materials will be offered through Teachable.  Weekly classroom sessions will be conducted via Zoom Meeting.  Between-session discussions will take place on a private Slack channel.  Details on how to access all of these resources will be provided upon registration.
